Established in Jackson County in 1938, Jackson Energy Cooperative, A Touchstone Energy Cooperative, is a regional utility with headquarters in McKee, Kentucky, serving over 51,000 members in 15 southeastern Kentucky counties. It currently offers a rebate program to members for increasing the efficiency of homes. Customers can apply for the Touchstone Energy Home rebate, whereby customers get a $500 rebate for building homes according to Touchstone Energy Home standards, which are 30% more efficient than those within 1990 Energy Code. A heat pump or geothermal heat pump system of SEER 16 or greater must also be installed in the home in order to receive the incentive payment.
An incentive for proper heat pump maintenance is also provided by Jackson Energy Cooperative. The heat pump tune-up offered by the co-op provides services valued at $300, but is discounted for customers to $50. Jackson Energy's "Button Up" program, meanwhile, provides up to $300 for customers who add insulation to their homes or pursue other energy efficiency measures.
More information on all programs is available on the co-op's web site listed above.
