The Yucca Mountain Project is focused on preserving the area’s biological resources, recreating habitat, and sustaining the plant community.
We work to protect the ecosystem by:
- Identifying and protecting sensitive species. For
example, to protect the desert tortoise, we conduct
surveys prior to and during any activity that disturbs
the land to ensure no tortoise is affected by the
activity. We also conduct tortoise surveys prior to
initiating the reclamation of any sites.
- Planning ways to conduct every Project activity
with minimal impact to the environment.
- Re-establishing vegetation and wildlife habitat
to disturbed areas through reclamation practices.
